(20) 심은 대로 거둔다 You Reap What You Sow
갈라디아서 Galatians 6:1-10
서론 Introduction: “형제들아 사람이 만일 무슨 범죄한 일이 드러나거든 신령한 너희는 온유한 심령으로 그러한 자를 바로잡고 너 자신을 살펴보아 너도 시험을 받을까 두려워하라” “Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you should also may be tempted” (1).
2023년 추수감사주일입니다. 추수는 심은 것을 거두는 것입니다. 심은 것을 거두는 것이 복입니다. 바른 것을 심고 바른 것을 거두는 것이 복입니다. 바른 것을 심고 바른 것을 거두는 것은 하나님이 복을 주시기 때문입니다. 시편 128편을 노래한 시인은 여호와를 경외하는 자가 누리는 복을 1절에서 다음과 같이 노래했습니다. “여호와를 경외하며 그의 길을 걷는 자마다 복이 있도다” 여호와를 경외한다는 것은 곧 여호와의 길을 걷는 것입니다. 2절에서는 “네가 네 손이 수고한 대로 먹을 것이라 네가 복되고 형통하리로다” 수고한 대로 먹는 것이 바로 복되고 형통한 삶입니다. 도박으로 큰돈을 따거나 복권에 당첨하여 큰돈을 받는 것은 행복이 아니라 저주가 될 가능성이 높습니다. 노력하지 않은 수입은 인생을 망칠 가능성이 매우 높습니다. 오늘 우리는 2023년 추수감사주일을 맞이하여 “심은 대로 거둔다”라는 제목으로 하나님의 말씀을 나눕니다.
1절에서 사도 바울은 갈라디아 교회 성도들에게 어떻게 공동체를 함께 세워나갈 수 있는가를 말씀합니다. 5장 마지막 절인 26절에서 사도 바울은 “헛된 영광을 구하여 서로 노엽게 하거나 서로 투기하지 말지니라”라고 하였습니다. 왜냐하면 공동체의 구성원이 그렇게 할 때, 그 공동체는 무너지기 때문입니다. 그래서 바로 6:1에서 공동체가 어떻게 세워질 수 있는가를 말씀합니다. 1절에서 우리는 한 가정을 떠올릴 수 있습니다. 부모가 자녀들을 기르는 가정입니다. 부모가 그릇 행하는 자녀를 바르게 인도합니다. 하지만 부모도 잘못을 범할 수 있습니다. 자녀도 좀 더 성숙한 자녀가 좀 더 미숙한 자녀를 바르게 인도할 수 있습니다. 가정이 작은 교회라면, 교회는 큰 가정입니다.
우리 교회의 어떤 구성원이 잘못을 범한 것이 드러날 수 있습니다. 그러면 교회의 어른은 그러한 구성원을 바로잡아 주어야 합니다. 그러나 교회의 어른도 역시 시험을 받을 수 있기에 자신을 되돌아보아야 합니다. 영적으로 성숙한 신자라고 해서 시험을 받지 않는 것은 아닙니다. 이렇게 한 신앙 공동체는 구성원 서로의 상호관계를 통하여 함께 성숙한 믿음으로 자라갑니다.
1. “그리스도의 법을 성취하라” “you will fulfill the law of Christ” (2-5).
2 너희가 짐을 서로 지라 그리하여 그리스도의 법을 성취하라
2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
이제 2절을 봅시다. 그래서 사도 바울은 “너희가 서로 짐을 지라”라고 권면합니다. 성숙한 구성원이 미숙한 구성원의 약함과 악함의 짐을 대신 지는 것입니다. 이것이 바로 서로 짐을 지는 것입니다. 우리 교회가 벌써 30년을 독립된 공동체를 이루며 함께 주님을 섬긴 것은 바로 이렇게 서로 짐을 지면서 사랑이라는 그리스도의 법을 성취해 왔기 때문입니다. 유대주의자들은 사도 바울이 율법폐기론을 가르친다고 비난했습니다. 그러나 사도 바울은 결코 율법폐기론을 가르치지 않았습니다. 그리스도의 법은 바로 사랑으로 서로의 짐을 지는 것입니다. 이것은 공동체의 구성원과 공동체를 세우는 근본 힘이 됩니다.
3 만일 누가 아무것도 되지 못하고 된 줄로 생각하면 스스로 속임이라
3 If anyone thinks he is something what he is nothing, he deceives himself.
이제 3절입니다. 사도 바울은 신앙이 성숙한 신자일지라도 끝없는 겸손만이 그가 가져야 할 진정한 태도라고 분명히 말씀합니다. 영어 번역은 더 명확하게 그 의미를 전달해 줍니다. 우리는 그리스도의 은혜가 없을 때, 우리는 아무것도 아님을 분명하게 자각해야 합니다. 이것이 바로 누가복음 17:10에서 우리 주님께서 우리에게 보여주신 바른 태도입니다. “이와 같이 너희도 명령받은 것을 다 행한 후에 이르기를 우리는 무익한 종이라 우리가 하여야 할 일을 한 것뿐이라 할지니라” 우리는 명령 받은 것을 다 행해야 합니다. 우리가 명령받은 것은 서로의 짐을 짐으로써 사랑이라는 그리스도의 법을 성취하는 것입니다. 그럼에도 우리는 절대로 겸손의 자세, 즉 종의 자세를 잃지 않아야 합니다. 그것이 바로 “우리는 무익한 종입니다. 다만 우리가 하여야 할 일을 한 것뿐입니다.”라는 자세를 계속 갖는 것입니다. 우리에게는 크레딧이 없습니다. 크레딧은 오직 주님께만 쌓입니다. 우리에게 공로가 쌓인다고 생각하는 것이 모든 잘못된 태도의 출발점입니다. 그래서 사도 바울도 그렇게 생각하는 것이 자신을 속이는 것이라 말씀하였습니다.
4 각각 자기 일을 살피라 그리하면 자랑할 것이 자기에게는 있어도 남에게는 있지 아니하리니
4 Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else,
그래서 사도 바울은 4절에서 이렇게 말씀합니다. “각각 자기의 일을 살피라” 우리는 어떠한 선한 일을 하더라도 자기 동기와 태도를 돌아보아야 합니다. 자기 일을 살피는 것은 당연합니다. 우리는 마땅히 자긍심을 가져야 합니다. 그러나 우리는 그것을 다른 사람과 비교해서 갖는 것이 아닙니다. 그것이 바로 교만입니다. 그것이 바로 우리 주님이 말씀하신 바리새인의 기도입니다. 누가복음 18:11에서 그 바리새인은 기도하기를 “이 세리와도 같지 아니함을 감사하나이다”라고 하였습니다. 이러한 태도는 자신의 의로움을 주님께 드러내는 것입니다. 그는 자신을 속이고 나아가 자신에게 속아 넘어갔습니다. 결국은 사탄의 속임에 빠지고 만 것입니다. 우리의 태도는 13절에서 주님께서 보여주신 세리의 태도와 항상 같아야 합니다. “하나님이여 불쌍히 여기소서 나는 죄인이로소이다” 이 육신 장막을 벗고 주님 앞에서 서는 날까지 우리는 오직 주님의 은혜만을 간절히 구해야 합니다. 우리 각자는 주님 앞에 홀로 나로서 서야 합니다. 그 누구와 나를 비교하여 비교 우위에 빠지거나 비교 절망에 빠지는 것은 어린 신앙의 전형적인 모습입니다.
5 각각 자기의 짐을 질 것이라
5 for each one should carry his own load.
그래서 사도 바울은 우리가 그렇게 해야 할 근거를 5절에서 이렇게 분명하게 선포합니다. “각각 자기의 짐을 질 것이라” 우리가 서로의 짐을 지는 것이 곧 자기의 짐을 지는 것입니다. 부모가 자녀를 돌보는 것이 곧 자기의 짐을 지는 것입니다. 성숙한 구성원이 미숙한 구성원의 짐을 지는 것이 각각 자기의 짐을 지는 것입니다.
2. “모든 좋은 것을 함께 하라” “share all good things with his instructor” (6).
6 가르침을 받는 자는 말씀을 가르치는 자와 모든 좋은 것을 함께 하라
6 Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.
이제 6절을 봅시다. 한 공동체에 사랑과 존경이 넘치는 것은 서로가 서로에게 감사하는 마음을 가지고 있기 때문입니다. 사랑은 흐르는 것입니다. 사랑이 있을 때 흐릅니다. 사랑이 있을 때 생명이 싹터 자라서 꽃을 피우고 열매를 맺습니다. 사랑이 있을 때 나눔이 있습니다. 사랑이 있을 때 풍성합니다. 사랑이 있을 때 서로의 부족함을 서로 채웁니다. 각각 자기의 짐을 지는 것이 곧 나누는 것입니다. 사랑으로 나누고 섬기는 것이 곧 한 사람을 살리는 것입니다. 사랑으로 뿌리고 심는 것이 곧 자기의 짐을 지는 것입니다.
3. “사람이 무엇으로 심든지 그대로 거두리라” “A man reaps what he sows” (7-9).
7 스스로 속이지 말라 하나님은 업신여김을 받지 아니 하시나니 사람이 무엇으로 심든지 그대로 거두리라
7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
이제 7절에서 사도 바울은 왜 우리가 바른 것을 심어야 하는지 분명하게 선포합니다. 그 이유는 바로 우리가 심은 대로 우리가 거두기 때문입니다. 아무것도 심지 않고 좋은 것을 기대하는 것은 하나님을 업신여기는 것입니다. 나쁜 것을 심고 좋은 것을 기대하는 것도 하나님을 업신여기는 것입니다. 콩 심은 데 콩 나고, 팥 심은 데 판 납니다.
8 자기의 육체를 위하여 심는 자는 육체로부터 썩어질 것을 거두고 성령을 위하여 심는 자는 성령으로부터 영생을 거두리라

그래서 사도 바울은 8절에서는 두 가지 분명히 다른 심음에 대하여 서로 대조하여 말씀합니다. 첫 번째는 죄의 본성을 위해 심는 것입니다. 죄의 본성을 기쁘게 하려고 심으면 죄의 본성으로부터 멸망을 거두게 됩니다. 이것은 5:19-21에 열거된 열다섯 가지의 죄입니다. 음행, 더러운 것, 호색; 우상 숭배, 주술; 원수 맺는 것, 분쟁, 시기, 분냄, 당짓는 것, 분열함, 이단, 투기; 술 취함, 방탕함. 이것이 중독의 상태로 발전하면 그 상태에서 빠져나오기는 거의 불가능에 가깝습니다. 그만큼 중독으로서의 죄는 그 힘이 강합니다. 우리는 관성의 법칙에 지배받습니다. 관성의 법칙은 운동하는 물체는 계속 운동하려 하고, 정지한 물체는 계속 정지하려 한다는 법칙입니다. 운동하던 물체가 멈추거나, 멈춘 물체가 운동하려면 훨씬 더 많은 힘이 필요합니다. 그래서 죄의 본성을 기쁘게 하려고 심으면 그 악순환에서 빠져날 수 없습니다.
두 번째로 성령을 기쁘시게 하려고 심으면 성령으로부터 영원한 생명을 거두게 됩니다. 성령이 기뻐하시는 것은 5:22-23에서 열거된 사랑, 희락, 화평, 오래 참음, 자비, 양선, 충성, 온유, 절제입니다. 사랑을 심으면 사랑을 거둡니다. 희락을 심으면 희락을 거둡니다. 화평을 심으면 화평을 거둡니다. 오래 참음을 심으면 오래 참음을 거둡니다. 자비를 심으면 자비를 거둡니다. 양선을 심으면 양선을 거둡니다. 충성을 심으면 충성을 거둡니다. 온유를 심으면 온유를 거둡니다. 절제를 심으면 절제를 거둡니다.
9 우리가 선을 행하되 낙심하지 말지니 포기하지 아니하면 때가 이르매 거두리라
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
그래서 사도 바울은 9절에서 우리가 무엇보다도 선행이라는 씨를 뿌려야 한다고 말씀합니다. 뿌린 대로 거둡니다. 무엇을 뿌리든지 그 뿌린 것을 거둡니다. 이것이 바로 우리가 추수감사절에 꼭 기억해야 하는 것입니다. 농사에서는 파종의 때가 있고 추수의 때가 있습니다. 그러나 성령이 기뻐하시는 것을 심는 것에는 때가 없습니다. 우리는 가장 늦었다고 생각되는 그때도 다시 뿌려야 합니다. 뿌림은 허비처럼 보입니다. 양식으로 돌아올 씨앗을 뿌리는 것입니다. 아무리 배가 고파도 씨앗을 양식으로 먹으면 안 됩니다. 배가 고파도 씨앗을 뿌리고 기다려야 합니다. 뿌리고 돌보아야 합니다. 잘 될지 그렇지 않을지 우리는 모릅니다. 그래서 우리는 하나님의 은혜를 구하며 기도해야 합니다. 그러나 뿌리지 않으면 거둘 것도 없습니다. 그래서 시편 126편을 지은 시인은 5절과 6절에서 이렇게 노래했습니다. “눈물을 흘리며 씨를 뿌리는 자는 기쁨으로 거두리로다 울며 씨를 뿌리러 나가는 가는 반드시 기쁨으로 그 곡식 단을 가지고 돌아오리로다.”
우리는 무엇을 뿌려야 할까요? 말씀을 우리 마음 밭에 뿌려야 합니다. 기도의 향기를 주님의 제단에 올려드려야 합니다. 찬양으로 입술의 열매를 주님께 올려드려야 합니다. 함께 모여 예배하며 공동체를 위하여 뿌려야 합니다. 손의 열매를 기쁨으로 주님께 드려야 합니다. 육체와 정신의 건강을 위하여 운동의 씨앗을 뿌려야 합니다. 부지런히 일하여 얻은 소득으로 투자의 씨앗을 뿌려야 합니다. 젊은 시절에 열심히 일하여 노후의 연금을 위하여 씨앗을 뿌려야 합니다. 가족과 신앙 공동체에 사랑의 씨앗을 뿌려야 합니다. 젊은이는 배우자를 얻고 가정을 이이루기 위하여 사랑의 씨앗을 뿌려야 합니다. 가정에서는 자녀를 위하여 기르기 위하여 사랑의 씨를 뿌려야 합니다. 교회는 다음 세대를 위하여 복음의 씨를 뿌려야 합니다. 세상에서 복음의 씨를 말과 행동으로 뿌려야 합니다. 성령께서 기뻐하시는 아홉 가지의 열매를 얻기 위하여 그 아홉 가지의 씨앗을 뿌려야 합니다. 우리는 다른 것이 아니라 뿌린 것을 거두기 때문입니다. 눈물을 흘리며 씨를 뿌리러 나가는 이만 기쁨으로 그 단을 가지고 돌아올 수 있기 때문입니다.
결론 Conclusion: “그러므로 우리는 기회 있는 대로 모든 이에게 착한 일을 하되 더욱 믿음의 가정들에게 할지니라” “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers” (10).
이제 결론으로 10절을 봅시다. 우리는 선택과 집중을 통하여 효과적으로 뿌릴 수 있습니다. 우선순위가 있어야 합니다. 그래서 사도 바울은 먼저 기회가 주어지면 모든 이에게 착한 일을 하되 더욱 믿음의 가정에 하라고 하였습니다. 이렇게 사도 바울은 교회 공동체를 가장 우선하여 고려하는 것을 드러냅니다. 우리 주님도 요한복음 13:34-35에서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. “새 계명을 너희에게 주노니 서로 사랑하라 내가 너희를 사랑한 것 같이 너희도 서로 사랑하라 너희가 서로 사랑하면 이로써 모든 사람이 너희가 내 제자인 줄 알리라” 먼저 우리 가정과 우리 교회에서 사랑의 씨를 뿌리고 사랑의 열매를 거둡시다. 먼저 우리 가정과 우리 교회에서 선행의 씨를 뿌리고 선행의 열매를 거둡시다. 다 함께 기도합니다.

뿌린 대로 거두게 하시는 하나님 아버지시여. 우리에게 2023년 추수감사주일을 맞이하여 함께 수확물을 봉헌하며 예배하게 하시니 감사합니다. 우리에게 눈물로 사랑과 선행의 씨앗을 뿌리는 나날이 되게 하소서. 그리하여 2024년 추수감사주일에 다시 기쁨으로 단을 가지고 돌아와 주님 앞에 드리게 하소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
(20) You Reap What You Sow
Galatians 6:1-10

Introduction: “Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you should also may be tempted” (1).
It's Thanksgiving Sunday, 2023. Harvest is about reaping what you sow. Blessed are those who reap what they sow. Blessed are those who sow what is right and reap what is right. The poet who sang Psalm 128 sang of the blessings of those who fear the LORD in verse 1: "Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways." To fear the LORD is to walk in his ways. Verse 2 says, "You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours." To eat in the labor of your hands is to live a blessed and prosperous life. Winning a large sum of money by gambling or winning the lottery is likely to be a curse, not a blessing. Earning money you didn't work for is very likely to ruin your life. Today we're sharing God's word on "You Reap What You Sow" for Thanksgiving Sunday, 2023.
In verse 1, the Apostle Paul tells the members of the churchs in Galatia how they can build up the community together. In the last verse of chapter 5, verse 26, the Apostle Paul said, "Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other," because when members of a community do that, the community falls apart. So right there in 6:1, he talks about how community can be built. In verse 1, we can think of a family. It's a family where parents are raising their children. Parents guide their wayward children to righteousness. But parents can do wrong, too. Children can also err, and more mature children can lead more immature children in the right direction. If the home is a small church, then the church is a large home.
A member of our church may be found to have done something wrong, and the adults in the church should correct them. But the adults in the church can also be tested, and they need to examine themselves. Being a spiritually mature believer does not mean that you will not be tested. A community of faith grows in maturity together through the interaction of its members with one another.
1. “you will fulfill the law of Christ” (2-5).
2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Now let's look at verse 2. So the Apostle Paul exhorts, "Carry each other’s burdens." This is what it means to bear one another's burdens. The mature members bear the burdens of the weaknesses and wickednesses of the inexperienced members. This is what it means to carry one another's burdens. The reason our church has been serving the Lord together as an independent community for 30 years now is because we have been fulfilling Christ's law of love by bearing one another's burdens. The Judaizers accused the Apostle Paul of teaching antinominianism, but the Apostle Paul never taught antinominianism. The law of Christ is to bear one another's burdens in love. This is the fundamental force that builds up a community and its members.

Now, verse 3. The Apostle Paul makes it clear that even for a mature believer, unending humility is the only true attitude he should have. The English translation conveys the meaning even more clearly. We must clearly realize that without the grace of Christ, we are nothing, and this is exactly the right attitude that our Lord showed us in Luke 17:10. "So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’" We should do all that is commanded. What we are commanded to do is to fulfill Christ's law of love by bearing one another's burdens. And yet, we must never lose our posture of humility, our servant's posture. That's why we say, "We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty." There is no credit to us; the credit is only with the Lord. Thinking that we get credit is the starting point of all wrong attitudes, which is why the Apostle Paul said that if you think that way, you are deceiving yourself.
4 Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else,
That's why the Apostle Paul says in verse 4 "Each one should test his own actions." In any good work we do, we should examine our motives and our attitudes. It is natural to examine our own work. We should have self-esteem we deserve, but we shouldn't have it in comparison to others. That's pride. That's the Pharisee's prayer that our Lord spoke of. In Luke 18:11, the Pharisee prayed, "God, I thank you that I am not even like this tax collector." This attitude reveals his self-righteousness to the Lord. He had deceived himself, and furthermore, he had been deceived by himself. In the end, he had fallen for Satan's deception. Our attitude should always be the same as that of the tax collector whom the Lord showed us in verse 13: "God, hav mercy on me, a sinner." Until the day when we take off this tabernacle of flesh and stand before the Lord, we should earnestly seek only His grace. Each of us must stand alone before the Lord as ourselves; comparing ourselves to anyone else and falling into comparative superiority or comparative despair is typical of a young faith.

And so the apostle Paul declares the basis on which we are to do so in verse 5. "For each one should carry his own load." When we bear each other's burdens, we bear our own burdens. When parents care for their children, they care for their own. When mature members bear the burdens of immature members, they bear their own burdens.
2. “share all good things with his instructor” (6).
6 Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.
Now let's look at verse 6. When love and respect abound in a community, it's because people appreciate each other. Love is a flowing thing. When there is love, it flows. When there is love, life sprouts and grows and blossoms and bears fruit. When there is love, there is sharing. When there is love, there is abundance. When you have love, you fill each other's needs. When you share and serve in love, you save a life. When you sow and plant in love, you carry your own burdens.
3. “A man reaps what he sows” (7-9).
7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
Now in verse 7, the Apostle Paul clearly declares why we should sow the right things: because as we sow, so shall we reap. To sow nothing and expect good is to dishonor God; to sow bad and expect good is also to dishonor God. Beans sprout where beans are sown, and red beans sprout where red beans are sown.
8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
So in verse 8, the Apostle Paul speaks of two distinctly different kinds of planting, contrasting them with each other. The first is planting for the sinful nature. When you plant to please the sinful nature, you reap destruction from the sinful nature. These are the fifteen sins listed in 5:19-21. Sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery; idolatry, witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, envy; drunkenness, orgies. Once this develops into a state of addiction, it's almost impossible to get out of it. That's how powerful sin as an addiction is. We are governed by the law of inertia, which states that an object in motion will continue to move, and an object at rest will continue to remain at rest. It takes a lot more force for a moving object to stop, or for a stopped object to start moving. So when we plant to please our sinful nature, we can't get out of the vicious cycle.
Second, if you plant to please the Holy Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Holy Spirit. The things the Holy Spirit delights in are the things listed in 5:22-23: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. If you sow love, you reap love. If you sow joy, you reap joy. If you sow peace, you reap peace. If you sow patience, you reap patience. When you sow kindness, you reap kindness. When you sow goodness, you reap goodness. When you sow faithfulness, you reap faithfulness. When you sow gentleness, you reap gentleness. When you sow self-control, you reap self-control.
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
So the Apostle Paul tells us in verse 9 that we must sow the seed of good works above all else. You reap what you sow. Whatever you sow, you reap what you sow. That's what we need to remember this Thanksgiving. In farming, there is a time for sowing and a time for reaping, but there is no time for planting what the Holy Spirit is pleased with. We need to sow again, even when we think it's most late. Sowing seems like a waste. You are sowing seeds that will return in food. No matter how hungry you are, you can't eat the seeds as food. No matter how hungry you are, you have to sow and wait. You have to sow and tend. We don't know if it will work out or not, so we have to pray for God's grace. But if you don't sow, you won't reap. So the poet who wrote Psalm 126 sang in verses 5 and 6: "Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him."
What should we sow? We should sow the Word in the fields of our hearts. The aroma of prayer should be offered on the altar of the Lord. We should offer the fruit of our lips in praise to the Lord. We should sow for the community as we gather together to worship. Offer the fruit of your hands to the Lord with joy. Sow the seeds of exercise for the health of your body and mind. Sow the seeds of investment with the income you earn through diligent work. Sow the seeds of hard work in your youth for a pension in your old age. Sow the seeds of love in your family and faith community. Young people should sow seeds of love to find a spouse and start a family. Families need to sow seeds of love to nurture their children. Churches need to sow seeds of the gospel for the next generation. In the world, we sow the seeds of the gospel in word and deed. We must sow those nine seeds to produce the nine fruits that the Holy Spirit is pleased with. For we reap what we sow and nothing else, and only he who goes out to sow with tears can return with sheaves of joy.
Conclusion: “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers” (10).
Now let's look at verse 10 as a conclusion. We can sow effectively through choice and focus. We must have priorities. And so the Apostle Paul says, as we have opportunity, first of all, do good to all, but more especially to the household of faith. In this way, the Apostle Paul reveals his prioritization of the church community. Our Lord also says this in John 13:34-35. "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." Let us first sow the seeds of love in our home and in our church, and then reap the fruits of love. Let us first sow the seeds of goodness and reap the fruits of goodness in our home and in our churche. We pray together.

Heavenly Father, we reap what we sow. We thank you that you have brought us together to worship and offer our harvest on Thanksgiving Sunday, 2023. Help us to sow the seeds of love and good deeds with our tears. So that on Thanksgiving Day 2024, we may return with joyful hearts to bring our sheaves to You. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
